5 Ways You Never Thought to Use a Maxi Pad

To start this hub out right, I feel it's probably a good idea to state the obvious. Maxi pads and menstrual pads are have a specific use, and there are plenty of other items that could be used in place of these 5 ways to use them. This being said, it's always useful to know about these uses when you're in a jam or when you need what they offer.

Do you have a long way to walk in uncomfortable shoes? Or maybe your shoes are new or just really worn in? No matter what the reason, when you need some extra comfort for your feet, maxi pads are great at providing that extra cushion. They aren't perfect, but when you need them, extra heavy flow pads make great in-soles for your feet. Try it out, you'd be surprised at how much it helps when you need your feet to go that extra mile.

I learned this trick on a particularly hot day while I was still dealing with a healing c-section incision. I am not the skinniest person in the world and my c-section scar just so happens to be in an area that collects moisture and sweat very easily, which left me of the dilema of trying to avoid any infections. It was while changing my pad for post pregnancy flows, that I thought to take a clean one and place it over my c-section incision. To my amazement, it kept my wound dry and comfortable, and even help with the irritation from my pants (bonus!).

Just make sure you use pads that are scent-free and don't have any "special" additives, as those will irritate your incision. Either way, I imagine that a maxi pad would also work well for other abdominal incisions, such as appendix incisions and such.

It's that one day that you rush out of the house and you forgot to replenish your diaper bag. You didn't figure you would be out of the house all that long, but through several unfortunate events, you find yourself busy with many things and out for a long time. So after you've gone through a diaper or two, you find yourself out of diapers just when your baby has released the worst kind of load.

You look through you're supplies and find wipes and everything but diapers, though you just so happened to have tons of menstrual pads in there that you packed just in case you needed them. What to do?

Clean that baby up and then pull out those pads! You easily wrap a regular or large sized maxi pad around your little babes butt and front area to keep them protected while you go through the store or head home for the real thing. If your little one is in a onsie or a pair of pants, you can use the sticky side of the pad to keep it in place for a short while by sticking it to the crotch area of the onsie or pants. If that isn't working for you, a shoe lace, scarf or piece of fabric can be loosely wrapped around there little belly to help keep the pad in place. Or you can also use a few extra pads partially stuck to each other and then to the lower pad being used as a diaper, to make a ring around their mid section.

Just remember that this is only a temporary solution in a time of dire need. You don't want to leave your babe in a bad diaper that can't wait to be changed, but being stuck in a make shift pad diaper isn't going to last long before they find a way to get around it. =)

Something ultra yucky or strain prone has just spilled on your (insert valuable item here), and you need to soak it up ASAP before it sets in. You don't have any napkins, paper towels or toilet paper around, but you just so happened to have some fresh maxi pads around. So grab one of them as soon as you can and soak up that spill!

Maxi pads were intended to be sponges, which makes them great as emergency clean up rags, and sometimes it can really save your carpet, car, clothes or other valuable.

In a tight situation where you or someone near you has been injured badly enough that a small band aide won't cover it and they need something over the wound ASAP, a scent-free maxi pad would very well be just what you need. They are meant to be used for sensitive bodily needs and to soak up excess blood. So using them as large band aides when you have nothing else, is a good thing to know about.

Makes you want to always keep a few pads around "just in case", doesn't it?
